After a slip and fall accident, you may be dealing with legal repercussions. If a person or company’s negligence was the cause of your injury, you could have a lawsuit against them. Though lawsuits can be mentally exhausting, it’s important to take care of your injuries right away as well. Slip and falls can be hard on the body, and a chiropractic adjustment may help with any ongoing pain.
How does a chiropractic adjustment work?
The premise of chiropractic treatment is based around the idea that when the skeletal system of the body is out of place, or misaligned, from their natural positions, in particular the spine, they can push against the nerves and cause pain in the body. If the bones can be readjusted through chiropractic manipulation, the pain can be relieved – naturally.
Understanding the Spine
There are at least 200 bones in the body. Although the body has been efficiently designed, when one bone has moved slightly out of place, it can result in pain and pressure on the nerves. This is particularly true in the spinal column. This area is basically a bone structure that shields vital nerves that pass from the brain and send messages through the body’s cells, tissues, and organs. When the nerves are under pressure, from a misalignment in the spine, the area can become inflamed. This inflammation can lead to an increased amount of cortisol release in the body – the hormone responsible for stress. When there is too much cortisol in one area, pain and discomfort can result.
When all of this happens, the body can become out of balance. You might feel tired, stressed, in pain, fatigued, or irritable. Some people might turn to medications to numb out the pain. Often these medications are strong, carry side effects, and can be addictive. This is not the way to address a problem that may be related to misalignment.
Chiropractic Treatment Today
Up until recently, allopathic doctors viewed chiropractic medicine with a great deal of skepticism. However after 10-15 years of fantastic research, there are ample amounts of evidence based data that confirms the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment. Today, doctors tend to view it as an effective form of treatment and a compliment to other methods of care. Even insurance companies usually cover the chiropractic sessions.
Because this treatment works closely with the central nervous system, it is thought that is may be able to treat musculoskeletal diseases as well as allergies, fibromyalgia, and high blood pressure.
What to Expect During Your Appointment with a Chiropractor
When you meet your chiropractor, he or she will listen to your concerns and evaluate your symptoms through various testing. X-rays or other scans may be performed, but not always. Once your doctor determines what may be the cause of your pain, different techniques will be applied to specific areas on your body. Usually, this will involve your neck, back, and spine. The subluxations, or displacements of the bones in the spines’ vertebrae, will be realigned to their natural place.
Depending on the diagnosis, you may need between one and five sessions or more. A typical session lasts for ten to twenty minutes. You may feel slight tenderness in the following hours or days, but this should not interrupt your ability to work or perform your daily tasks. You should notice some relief after your first appointment.
After you meet with a chiropractor, be sure to inform your lawyer of any medical bills you incur, since those may be covered by the opposing party to the lawsuit. Also let your lawyer know of any potential ongoing injuries your chiropractor suspects may affect you. To get help with any additional legal questions, be sure to discuss your options with a Washington D.C. slip and fall lawyer.
